Poker players will compete for a whopping $40 million guarantee in the upcoming World Poker Tour (WPT) World Championship, the biggest guaranteed prize money for a single tournament in live poker history.
This is a huge step up from the $15 million guarantee offered during the inaugural edition in 2022 which was easily smashed when the total prize pool reached almost $30 million.
Another Historic Year for WPT World Championship
The WPT World Championship is aiming to add another feather to its cap this year with a record $40 million guarantee and while the goal looks quite ambitious, it’s not that hard to achieve, considering the tournament’s debut performance.
The inaugural event pulled in 2,960 entrants to nearly double its guarantee, and that massive field was topped by Canada’s Eliot Hudon who became an instant millionaire after walking away with $4.1 million in top prize.
The WPT World Championship retains its $10,400 buy-in and runs from December 12-21 at Wynn Las Vegas. Players can enter via four starting flights with the structure designed for all players regardless of their skill level. Those who cannot afford the buy-in may still qualify for a fraction of the prize through promotions as well as online satellites running on WPT Global.
The WPT World Championship is part of a major series at Wynn with several other key events to be on the lookout for, including five events with six-figure guarantees.
