The Asian Poker Tour (APT) Hanoi Billions 2023 came to an abrupt end over the weekend after organizers cancelled the rest of the series without proper explanation. The decision was made as the festival’s flagship tournament, the Main Event, was close to crowning a winner.
Series Could be Cancelled Due to Govt. Pressure
In an announcement on X (formerly Twitter), the APT did not specify the reason for the cancellation but cited “extenuating circumstances” that it was not able to overcome.
There were speculations organizers had been forced to cancel the series due to government pressure. The APT disabled comments on the post.
APT Promises Fair Distribution of Funds
Many players were left disappointed with the decision, especially those who were still in the middle of the action when the series was cancelled, but they won’t have to worry about their money as the APT promised it would be fairly distributed back to them.
The tour assured players that their funds were secure and that all remaining active players would receive their payouts. As for the Main Event, the payouts will depend on each player’s stack size when the tournament was stopped.
Nguyen Van Sang will take home the biggest slice of the pot worth VND 4,376,859,231 as he was the chip leader when the game was cancelled.
