The NFL franchise New York Jets has announced that it has followed its recent partnership signing with 888 Holdings by entering into an agreement with MGM Resorts.
On Wednesday, 31st October 2018, an announcement was made by the Jets that MGM Resorts would become their official gaming partner, and that it is currently searching for an acceptable daily fantasy sports partner.
Jim Murren, the Resorts chairman and Chief Executive, commented on the agreement between the parties in a company statement by saying that they could not be more excited to join with the New York Jets for a first-of-its-kind partnership in the NFL.
Included in the deal with MGM Resorts is the introduction of the mobile app game “I Called It” which has been especially designed for Jets fans, giving users the opportunity to play for free in compliance with the NFL’s policy of not advertising sports betting sites.
Following the United States Supreme Court overturning of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act – PASPA, the NFL appears to have back-tracked on sports betting but still does not allow sports betting advertising other than that for fantasy sports sites at NFL broadcasts or NFL stadiums.
The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), also known as the Bradley Act, was signed into law by President Bush in 1992. The bill prevented states from offering legal sports betting, with a few exceptions.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down PASPA as unconstitutional on 14th May 2018 following a long battle between New Jersey and the major professional sports leagues.
