This week it was the turn of Connecticut to open its legal sports betting market, with players allowed to place bets on sports teams for the first time.
Both Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Mohegan Sun were granted state licenses by the Department of Consumer Protection authority. Players can place bets across professional and collegiate sports events at kiosks and in-person at sportsbook venues at the two casinos. Online sports betting is not currently available in the state.
Foxwoods’ operators, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, has chosen to work with DraftKings, while the Mohegan Tribal Nation has partnered with FanDuel.
“Today we celebrate a new era for our Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, sports fans, Foxwoods guests and Connecticut residents,” said Rodney Butler, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal chairman.
“We have to migrate to sports betting, and we have to get online. Every other industry is going there. Also, we made progress with the last administration and significant progress in retail gaming in the last administration. But under the governor and his vision and understanding of business and the importance of technology and more so now than ever during this pandemic how every industry was moving online,” he added.
Governor Ned Lamont attended ceremonies at both resorts to officially kick off sports betting in the state.
