DigiPlus has cleared a key regulatory hurdle in South Africa, giving the Philippine operator a live route into Africa’s biggest online gaming market.
Western Cape Opens the Door
DigiPlus Interactive Corp. has received approval to begin operating in South Africa through licenses issued by the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. The package includes a national manufacturer license, a bookmaker license, and a bookmaker premises license, which together give the company room to build out several gaming activities in the market.
For players, this is the sort of corporate move that can eventually turn into more brand choice, more product variety, and another operator fighting for attention in an already busy online space. South Africa is now lined up as DigiPlus’ second international target after Brazil, so this is not a toe-in-the-water move.
Why DigiPlus Picked the Western Cape
The company is using Western Cape as its entry point for a reason. DigiPlus said the province produced about 31% of South Africa’s online gaming revenue in 2025, and it pointed to the area’s licensing framework, digital readiness, and Cape Town’s role as a commercial hub as major draws.
DigiPlus also said South Africa’s wider gaming industry generated an estimated $4.9 billion in revenue in 2025. That kind of number tends to get boardrooms very interested, and it helps explain why operators keep circling regulated African markets rather than just talking about them.
Brazil Came First, South Africa Comes Next
South Africa follows DigiPlus’ earlier push into Brazil. That rollout was hardly smooth, with the company pausing its gaming platform less than a month after launch, though it has since said full commercial operations in Brazil are targeted for the first half of 2026. DigiPlus has also said lessons from Brazil should help shape its South African rollout.
Earlier company comments pointed to a soft launch in South Africa by early 2027, and these approvals make that timeline look a lot more real. In plain English, the paperwork is no longer the excuse.
A Bigger Push Beyond the Philippines
DigiPlus remains best known in its home market through BingoPlus, ArenaPlus, and GameZone. BingoPlus has been described by the company as the Philippines’ first government-approved online bingo platform, while ArenaPlus focuses on sports betting and GameZone leans into casual and arcade-style play.
The overseas push comes as DigiPlus looks to broaden its revenue base and grow in regulated markets outside the Philippines. It is also pursuing HKD1.60 billion in convertible notes issued by International Entertainment Corp., a deal that would hand it control of New Coast Hotel Manila as that property is redeveloped into an integrated resort.
Growth Story, With a Small Asterisk
The expansion drive is arriving alongside softer recent numbers. DigiPlus said in March that fourth-quarter net income dropped 36% year-on-year to PHP2.5 billion, while revenue for the three months ended December 31 fell 27% to PHP17.3 billion.
That does not kill the growth story, but it does add pressure. For the average online casino player, the real takeaway is simple: if DigiPlus turns its licenses into a proper launch, South Africa could end up with one more well-funded operator trying to win customers the old-fashioned way, with products, promos, and a reason to log in.
