Entain is dealing with a regulatory mess in Australia while also widening its casino content reach in Germany and Austria.
BetStop Breaches Put Entain Under Pressure
Entain Group Pty Ltd, the parent company of Ladbrokes AU and Neds AU, has entered into a court-enforceable undertaking after the Australian Communications and Media Authority found more than 500 breaches of national self-exclusion rules.
The issue sits around BetStop, Australia’s National Self-Exclusion Register. Once a player signs up, wagering operators are meant to close that person’s accounts as soon as practicable. ACMA said Entain opened accounts for self-excluded customers, continued providing wagering services to some of them, and failed to close accounts that should have been shut.
Multiple Accounts Created The Compliance Headache
ACMA member Carolyn Lidgerwood said many of the breaches involved customers with multiple accounts across Ladbrokes and Neds. In one case, an account stayed open for more than a year after the customer had self-excluded. That is not exactly the kind of “frictionless experience” players need when they are trying to stop gambling.
The regulator also found that Entain did not properly promote BetStop in customer texts and emails, which forms part of the required consumer protection setup in Australia. Entain must now complete an independent review of its compliance systems and carry out any recommended fixes under an 18-month undertaking.
No Fine Yet, But The Door Is Open
ACMA did not issue an infringement notice because that enforcement option was not available in this case. Still, the undertaking has teeth: if Entain fails to comply, it could face court-ordered financial penalties.
For regular online casino and betting customers, the message is plain enough. Self-exclusion tools only work when operators connect the dots across all accounts, brands, and customer touchpoints. Anything less leaves vulnerable players exposed.
Spinomenal Deal Adds A Brighter European Note
Away from Australia, Entain has also moved on the content side through a partnership with Spinomenal in Germany and Austria. The rollout will bring Spinomenal’s slot portfolio to Entain players in both markets, with delivery handled through Pariplay’s Fusion aggregation platform.
Players at brands such as bwin are set to gain access to titles including Mega Wild Fruits: Ice Blast, Zeus Unchained: Hold and Hit, Wolf Fang: Supermoon, Majestic Bison, and Book of Atlas. Spinomenal said the launch is the opening stage of a wider multi-market collaboration with Entain.
A Mixed Week For Entain
Put together, the two stories give Entain a split-screen moment. In Europe, it is adding more slot content and deepening supplier ties. In Australia, it is being pushed to clean up systems that should protect players who have already asked to be kept away from gambling. For the average Joe player, the second point matters more. New games are nice; working safeguards are non-negotiable.
