Delaware State has announced that two new properties are offering sports betting, increasing the number to five. The first venues to offer betting on sports in Delaware were the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort, the Greenbrier Resort and the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Racetrack.
Now the state has added the Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Racetrack and the Mardi Gras Casino and Resort to that list.
It should be noted that both the new properties are owned by the same entity, Delaware North. The casinos have made plans to roll out sports betting via its land-based sports book, as well as online sports betting via its BetLucky.com powered desktop and mobile apps. The online version is available across all Delaware North brands in the state.
When Delaware passed sports betting laws, it was predicted that the state would see around $5.5 million in revenues from this industry in its first year. Analysts believe that the majority of that income will generate from mobile and online betting.
Soon after the Supreme Court passed its landmark ruling allowing legal and regulated sports betting across the country in May, Delaware became the first state to offer sports betting. In June, the state saw the first three casinos start offering Las-Vegas style wagering. Since 2009, Delaware has offered parlay wagers on the NFL through the state lottery. Nearly $50 million was bet legally on the NFL in Delaware last year.
