The state of Colorado voted for legalized sports betting in November of last year and is currently gearing up to launch sports betting on 1st May 2020. Colorado will then be the 18th state to launch and regulate sports betting in the United States.
The launch of sports betting in Colorado is the second year since the Supreme Court of the United States struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 and the operations of sports betting in the United States became federally legal.
Together with Colorado, the legislation of sports betting includes states like Delaware, New York, Iowa, Rhode Island and Illinois.
Colorado will enable in-person as well as mobile or online betting within the state. Currently, the seven licensed casinos in the state to offer sports betting are located in Cripple Creek, Black Hawk and Central City while digital platforms such as FanDuel, DraftKings, Betfred, PointsBet, Circa Sports and Barstool Sports are options that local punters have.
The SuperBook recently announced that it will be partnering with Jacobs Entertainment Inc who will both be operating retail as well as a mobile sportsbook in Colorado, based at The Lodge Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Mobile betting will launch in May and the retail operations will be open by August 2020.
