DraftKings has launched Moonshot for MLB bettors, mixing live sports betting outcomes with multiplier-style suspense that will feel familiar to anyone who has played modern slots or crash games.
How Moonshot Works
Moonshot lets DraftKings customers place a live MLB wager before a qualifying plate appearance and choose a target payout multiplier. Batter outcomes add predefined multiplier value, such as a double adding extra progress, and the bet wins if the chosen target is reached before an out is recorded.
Players can also cash out before hitting the target, but once an out happens, the bet ends. That gives Moonshot a “press your luck” rhythm: take the smaller cash-out or hang on for the bigger multiplier and risk the inning killing the ticket.
Why Slot Players Will Recognize the Feel
This is not a slot, because the result depends on a real baseball plate appearance rather than a random number generator. Still, the design borrows from casino language: rising multipliers, quick decisions, visual tension and a payout multiplier ladder that can vanish fast.
That is the clever part and the risky part. For casual MLB fans, Moonshot can make a single at-bat feel like a mini-game. For players used to slots, the feature may feel instantly readable: build the multiplier, dodge the dead stop, decide whether to cash out.
Where It Is Launching
DraftKings said Moonshot is initially coming to 18 North American jurisdictions, including Ontario sports betting and major regulated U.S. markets such as New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio.
The company has not confirmed whether it plans to take Moonshot beyond MLB. If it performs well, though, it is not hard to imagine similar ideas around football drives, basketball possessions or tennis points. Sportsbooks love live betting because the game keeps offering fresh windows; Moonshot simply puts brighter lights around one of them.
The Player Warning Hiding in the Fun
DraftKings Responsible Gaming guidance tells players to treat betting as entertainment, set time and money limits, avoid chasing losses and use tools such as budgets, limits, cool-off periods and self-exclusion.
That advice matters more with a fast live betting product. Moonshot is easy to understand, quick to settle and emotionally noisy. Great for a sweat, dangerous for anyone who starts firing again just because the last out felt unlucky. Baseball already has enough ways to break a heart; your bankroll does not need to join the injury list.
