SkyCity Entertainment Group has signed a binding agreement to sell The Grand Hotel in Auckland for NZ$221 million, moving a major part of its debt reduction plan closer to completion. The casino operator announced the deal on October 16, with settlement targeted for mid-December 2026.
The buyers are Eden Global Capital Private Limited and Auckland City Collective Limited. They belong to a privately owned property investment and development group with interests in Australia, Singapore and other Southeast Asian markets.
SkyCity Will Run the Hotel During the Handover
For visitors to SkyCity Auckland, the most immediate detail is who will operate the hotel after the sale. SkyCity has agreed to continue managing it for the incoming owners during a transition period ending June 30, 2027.
Chief executive Jason Walbridge said the company expects The Grand to remain part of the wider SkyCity precinct over the long term. The arrangement allows the hotel to change ownership while SkyCity remains responsible for its operation through the agreed handover period.
The Sale Adds to a Wider Debt Repayment Plan
SkyCity says money raised through its asset sale program will go toward repaying debt and giving the business more financial flexibility.
In September, the group said it was targeting total asset sale proceeds of NZ$275 million to NZ$300 million before the end of 2026. It had already completed commercial property sales worth NZ$74.5 million.
Adding the agreed hotel price to those completed sales gives a combined value of NZ$295.5 million, close to the upper end of that September target. The hotel transaction still needs to complete before SkyCity receives the proceeds.
Approval Is Still Needed Before Completion
The agreement remains subject to conditions, including consent from New Zealand’s Overseas Investment Office. SkyCity expects those conditions to be addressed during the remainder of the year, making mid-December a target rather than a guaranteed completion date.
The company first disclosed a preliminary, non-binding hotel sale agreement on July 22, when the price remained confidential. October’s announcement establishes the buyers, the agreed value and a binding contract, giving investors a clearer picture of how the proposed sale will contribute to SkyCity’s finances.
